Today is: Surreal, making way to Nucking Futs!

I had the discussion I never saw coming a million miles away. Actually spent nearly an hour discussing the difference between Hero, Villain,& Anti-Hero. It started with my friend wanting to know when the Catwoman movie was supposed to come out, and moved into a lengthy discussion as to whether or not Catwoman is a Villain.

In all mediums, Catwoman only did things she thought would be for the better of society in general. When she blew up the department store in the Batman movie, who did the store belong to but Max Schreck, the man who pushed her out of a window and left her for dead. Understandably, she was a "little upset", to say the least.

The only reason she attacked Batman was because he felt it was his duty to stop from commiting criminal acts. Her criminal acts directed at Max Schreck, of course. If someone stopped you from exacting revenge on the person responsible for your attempted murder, you'd probably be somewhat pissed too!

And while I'm on the subject, Batman isn't exactly a full-blown Hero, either. His need for justice breeding from the need to exact revenge on the person, or persons responsible for his parents' murders. Sound somewhat familiar? So, technically, Batman as well as Catwoman fall into the category of Anti-Hero, as far as I can see.

Anti-Hero: A main character in a dramatic or narrative work who is characterized by a lack of traditional heroic qualities, such as idealism or courage. 2. a protagonist who lacks the characteristics that would make him a hero (or her a heroine)

Hero: A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.

Villain: A wicked or evil person; a scoundrel.

So, all in all, Catwoman isn't exactly a Villain, more Anti-Hero, not unlike Batman. Of course, our discussion was much longer and dragged out, into much more detail, but you get the point. That is, if you aren't completely bored and confused by now.

Deep thought for the day: And they say that a Hero could save us, I'm not gonna stand here and wait...
